Vessel Congestion Update:
The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are quite busy. Most container vessel arrivals continue to go to anchorage first prior to being relocated to a terminal. The average days waiting in anchorage has been slightly reduced to an average of 4 ½ days to 6 ½ days.
Jonathan Gold, National Retail Federation (NRF) Vice President, was recently quoted in part: “Despite the continuing pandemic, most consumers are in good financial health and are not hesitating to spend, and the cargo surge that began last fall doesn’t show any sign of stopping.”
Researchers state: “Though U.S. retailers are spending more on inventory as items continue to fly off the shelves, keeping inventory levels at record lows, businesses may struggle to avoid stockouts come this holiday season.” Retail restocking is anticipated to keep container vessels at capacity as freight rates are way up and will be for some time as carriers forecast vessels will continue to be at full capacity.
