Carnets are like "passports for goods" and are used in place of usual Customs documentation for commercial goods that are traveling out of the United States temporarily and then re-entering the states within one year. They are the simplest tax-free and duty-free method of exporting commercial goods on a temporary basis.

Carnets can be used in multiple countries for multiple trips up to one year (please see our list of countries that require carnets below). The number of vouchers in a Carnet depends on the route the goods are traveling and the number of countries being visited. Additional vouchers can be added throughout the year.
