Vessel Congestion Update
The Port of Oakland has been added to the weekly vessel congestion report. Carriers are utilizing the San Francisco Bay and Farallon Islands for container vessels. Recently, the Port of Oakland announced two new carrier first calls of a weekly container vessel arriving directly into Oakland from Asia. Bryan Brandes, Oakland Maritime Director stated in part: “He is gratified that the two new services reflect the growing recognition that Oakland is an essential trade gateway.” Both CMA-CGM and Wan Hai Line will make first calls into Oakland from Asia.
The Taiwan-based Wan Hai Line weekly call will first arrive crossing the Trans-Pacific route into Oakland from having called at the Asian ports of Yaoshsiung, Shanghai, Ningbo, and Yantianto to Oakland with a second west coast call to the port Seattle before returning to Asia. The French Carrier CMA-CGM has started a new weekly Golden Gate Bridge service. The shipping route will connect the ports of Shanghai, Yantian, and Kaohsiung China into the Port of Oakland, with a second call to the Port of Seattle before the vessel returns to China.
The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach remain busy and moving containerized cargo along with some reduction in anchorage wait times. West Coast Ports continue to receive cargo at record levels.
