May 24, 2024DHS Expands UFLPA Entity List to Combat Forced Labor
On May 16th, the US Department of Homeland Security added 26 textile companies to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA), prohibiting goods made by these companies to enter the US.
The expansion of the list is a response to ongoing concerns about the exploitation of vulnerable populations in supply chains. By targeting entities that contribute to or benefit from forced labor, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) aims to disrupt these practices and hold accountable those who perpetuate human rights abuses.
For years, the people of Uyghur have been forced into labor jobs, and forced into re-education camps under China’s control. The purpose of the UFLPA is to hold companies accountable for knowing where their materials come from, and to ensure that they are not supporting companies that use forced labor.
