July 26, 2021Global Congestion Worsens
On July 21, 2021, Splash reported, port congestion is now worldwide. Congestion worsens as an estimated 116 ports report disruption. Greater numbers of containerships are idling and wait for berth spaces across five continents. Currently, up to 328 ships are anchored in front of ports around the world. Last month an estimated 304 ships were idol at ports and 102 ports reported disruption.
The backlog from Yantian ports has ships waiting outside the Asian transshipment Port of Singapore and this week, the San Pedro Port Complex reported double digits of containerships waiting in anchorage, up from the previous single digit of the last few weeks.
Lars Jensen, Vespucci Maritime earlier announced an estimated 10% of the world’s shipping capacity has been affected due to port congestion issues.
