August 13, 2024Ongoing Delays in the Port of New York / New Jersey
This week, we have seen no signs of improvement within the Port of New York/ New Jersey with extreme delays averaging 4-5 hours just within the ports. There are also significant delays outside of the terminals. The situation continues to face complications with the lack of appointments for empty returns in the mornings, and a rush of truckers to return empties in the afternoons.
The Port Authority Police have increased their presence in response to the increased delays and traffic around the port. They are implementing altered traffic patterns in an attempt to manage the congestion.
With last week’s news surrounding the breakdown in labor negotiations, and the impending contract expiration on October 1, conditions are unlikely to improve until a new agreement is reached.
