U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Update: FDA has extended the deadline date for food facilities to submit their Dun & Bradstreet (DUNS) number.

In 2020, the FDA, during the biennial registration renewal period for food facilities, required a DUNS number as part of the registration process. As the end of December deadline for renewal approached, many facilities were having trouble obtaining a DUNS number for the facility locations. In response to concerns from the trade, on December 1, 2020, the FDA issued guidance allowing the registrants to enter “PENDING” in the field where the number is requested so long as the registration is updated with the DUNS number in 90 days. On March 30, 2021, obtaining DUNS numbers remained difficult for some.

The FDA will once again extend the deadline date to obtain a DUNS number, which will be until the end of the year of the next registration cycle of December 31, 2022.  Use of the word “PENDING” can continue to be used in place of the DUNS number.  Here is a link for Dun & Bradstreet: https://www.dnb.com
